At Prairie Flax Products Inc.
we produce and distribute high quality food grade milled
flaxseed.
Flax has a pleasant, nutty taste
along with a unique blend of nutrients. The high amount
of dietary fibre, the abundance of Omega-3 fatty acids
and the rich amounts of vitamins and mineral make it an
excellent addition to most diets.
Flax is one of the few vegetable
sources for Omega-3s which are essential fats our bodies
require to function properly.
It is also rich in lignans
which have antibacterial, antiviral and antifungal
properties and can play a role in the prevention of
several types of cancers.

“The HACCP program is a food
safety system that helps to ensure each step of the food
development process in a production plant has a
science-based monitoring and control system in place,”
said Wowchuk. “We congratulate Prairie Flax Products
Inc. for its diligence in pursuing this process to
create safer food products.”
HACCP is designed to
identify and control potential hazards from the raw
materials, during processing and through to the
finished product. The Growing Forward Food Safety
program provides companies with funding for
consultation, staff training, to cover staff time in
developing and documenting the system, record keeping,
product testing and certain pre-approved food safety
related equipment.
Manitoba’s HACCP standard
was launched in 2006 by Manitoba Agriculture, Food and
Rural Initiatives (MAFRI). With funding from the
federal-provincial Food Safety Initiative, MAFRI worked
with Canadian Grain Commission (CGC) to develop a
grain-specific food safety program that could be
certified by CGC and recognized by MAFRI with a single
audit. Grain companies may access funding from Growing
Forward program to implement CGC’s HACCP program and be
audited by one of CGC’s accredited service providers.
Participation in the Manitoba HACCP Advantage or CGC
HACCP is encouraged by MAFRI, CGC and the grain and food
processing industries. The program provides the
resources to help Manitoba food processors to produce
safer food which increases consumer confidence and helps
increase and maintain access to local and distant
markets.
Further information on HACCP is available from all MAFRI
GO offices and on-line at
